US Department of Labor’s 2023 Summer Fellowship offers emerging researchers opportunities to support independent evaluations, research

Chief Evaluation Officer seeking applicants for 11-week program

WASHINGTON The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the launch of its second annual Chief Evaluation Office Summer Fellowship, and welcomes applications from emerging researchers to work as fellows in 2023.

The CEO Summer Fellowship will support up to five Ph.D.s, either current students or recent graduates, as paid, full-time fellows for 11 weeks in the Chief Evaluation Office. Fellows will have the opportunity to gain valuable federal experience related to their field of study.

The department is seeking quantitative researchers with specialized skills in statistical methodology, program evaluation or data analytics and qualitative researchers with expertise in planning research roundtables or translating technical findings for a non-technical audience.

“Our first cohort of summer fellows contributed to important research projects, led department-wide methodological trainings and furthered their dissertations,” said Chief Evaluation Officer Dr. Christina Yancey. “We look forward to another successful cohort and to receiving applications from diverse candidates across the social sciences with an interest in labor-related topics.”

CEO values the contributions made by Ph.D. students and recent graduates of all ages and backgrounds. Its Summer Fellows will be supervised and mentored by CEO staff in either the Research and Evaluation or the Data Analytics Units. They will be exposed to a range of agencies and support discrete initiatives within CEO.

Learn more about the CEO Summer Fellowship and upcoming information sessions featuring CEO staff and past fellows. The deadline for application is Jan. 20, 2023.

The department’s Chief Evaluation Office sponsors independent evaluations and research, primarily conducted by third-party contractors in keeping with the department’s Evaluation Policy.
