U.S. Department of Labor Awards $3.5 Million in Additional Assistance to Dislocated Workers from Fort Hood and Red River Army Depot in Texas

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the award of $3,590,635 in additional funding to the Texas Workforce Commission for a National Dislocated Worker Grant currently serving dislocated workers at Fort Hood and Red River Army Depot (RRAD), located in Killeen and Texarkana, Texas, respectively

In October 2018, the Department initially approved for this grant funding of up to $5,385,952, with $1,795,317 released initially.  This latest funding will allow for the continuation of employment and training services to eligible military service members transitioning to civilian employment, as well as to civilian workers affected by layoffs.

Supported by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014, Dislocated Worker Grants temporarily expand the service capacity of dislocated worker programs at the state and local levels by providing funding assistance in response to large, unexpected economic events that cause significant job losses.

The mission of the Department of Labor is to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of the wage earners, job seekers, and retirees of the United States; improve working conditions; advance opportunities for profitable employment; and assure work-related benefits and rights.
