Problem to be Addressed |
In 1998, the Government of South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the ILO and has begun the process of adapting current legislation to reflect the commitment to combat child labor. There is a lack of available data on the extent of the child labor problem in the country, and there is no comprehensive national strategy against child labor. |
Results |
This project focused on building the capacity of government agencies, worker and employer organizations, and various research institutions and NGOs that work on issues related to children, particularly those focusing on vulnerable groups. |
Project Objectives |
To contribute to the progressive elimination of child labor in South Africa, giving priority to its worst forms, and provided alternatives for children. Intermediate objectives included:
