Project Objectives

  • To increase knowledge among employers and workers of their rights and obligations under national labor laws.
  • To increase effectiveness of the labor administration/inspection system.
  • To assure that inspection policies and guidelines are in place at national and regional levels related to the laws passed in 2004, the Employment and Labor Relations Act and the Labor Institution Act.
  • To increase the Ministry of Labor’s ability to collect and analyze Labor Market Information.

Summary of Activities

  • Provide trainings in workers’ and employers’ rights, obligations under national labor laws.
  • Conduct a baseline study to determine existing status of labor inspections.
  • Determine needs for worker and employer trainings in collective bargaining, right of association, and dispute prevention and resolution and provide trainings.
  • Conduct an awareness-raising and media campaign about workers’ and employers’ rights and obligations under national labor laws developed and agreed to by social partners.
  • Assist the Ministry of Labor in Tanzania to develop an action plan to improve policies, structures and management of the labor administration (including inspection) departments.
