Problem to be Addressed |
In Morocco, thousands of children, primarily girls, work long hours as domestic servants. These children are often the victims of a practice known as “adoptive servitude,” through which they are effectively sold by poor rural parents to more wealthy urban families. Although this practice is expected to provide children with a better life and perhaps even an education, in practice many children are reduced to unpaid servants, expected to be on-call 24 hours a day, and seldom receive any form of an education. Children also work in the handicrafts sector, producing textiles and carpets, participate in light manufacturing activities, and work in the auto repair sector. |
Results |
The project withdrew or prevented 11,882 children from the worst forms of child labor (WFCL), primarily domestic work, but also in the auto mechanic and handicraft sectors. |
