Problem to be Addressed

Targets

  • Ministries of Labor, with special emphasis on Inspection Offices

Project Objectives

  • Improve compliance with national labor laws by strengthening the enforcement capabilities of Ministries of Labor in Central America and the Dominican Republic (overall objective).
  • Improve the capacity of the Ministries of Labor to more effectively manage and oversee inspection and mediation functions.
  • Improve the capacity of the Ministries of Labor to better target labor inspections in order to maximize scarce resources.
  • Improve the technical capacity of the Ministries of Labor to carry out inspections and other enforcement initiative in targeted sectors and/or for targeted labor violations.

Summary of Activities

  • Build inspection service capacities through new/improved electronic systems.
  • Develop strategic and monitoring plans in conjunction with ministries.
  • Develop inspection protocols and strategies for priority sectors.
  • Develop/enhance systematic mechanisms for stakeholder consultations regarding key aspects of inspection and mediation functions.
