Problem to be Addressed

The lack of standardized national level data on child labor practices in Brazil.

Project Objectives

Development Objective:
To contribute to the collection of reliable data to support effective interventions against child labor.

  • At the end of the program, quantitative and qualitative data on child labor will have been collected, processed, analyzed and disseminated.

Summary of Activities

Research Design:
Attached a child labor survey as a module to the National Household Survey Sample (PNAD). Socio-demographic and economic characteristics of Brazilians aged ten and above were collected using the PNAD.

  • Administered a modular household survey to investigate child labor magnitude and practices in Brazil and inform related policy;
  • Utilized data collected to develop national policy papers and IPEC country program priorities; and
  • Repeated longitudinal surveys to maintain time series data on child labor practices.
