Research, Analysis and Reports

ILAB/OIR provides expertise on current global conditions for the following Congressionally-mandated reports annually published through the State Department:

  • Country Reports on Human Rights Practices; ILAB reviews and revises, as needed, the Report's Section 5 on Discrimination, Societal Abuses and Trafficking in Persons (which include women, children, disabled and indigenous people) and Section 6 on Worker Rights (which include the right to association and right to organize and bargain collectively; prohibition of forced labor, compulsory labor, child labor and the minimum age for employment; and acceptable conditions of work.
  • Advancing Freedom and Democracy Report (AFDR) ILAB helps determine U.S. Government priorities and specific actions and activities that Chiefs of Missions and other U.S. officials are implementing to achieve democracy and the promotion of human rights. AFDR replaces the Supporting Human Rights and Democracy Report.
  • International Exchanges and Training Report ILAB lists countries for whom funding was provided for exchanges and training of officials representing ministries of labor, business groups, universities, trade unions and other governmental and non-governmental organizations; and

Other Non-Congressionally-mandated Reports that ILAB/OIR produces:

  • The Foreign Labor Trends (FLT) Reports Series provides U.S. stakeholders with information and analysis on foreign labor markets, laws and trends. As part of the FLT Reports Series, ILAB produces the U.S. Labor Profile, currently in English, Spanish and French, which provides an overview of U.S. labor laws, institutions, practices, and Department of Labor Agencies and their responsibilities.
