Past APEC and HRDWG meetings and events:
DOL has organized and participated in several APEC events on topics related to employment, training and social protection issues since 2006. These meetings, designed to assist APEC member economies address workforce demands in the Asia-Pacific region, include:
March 23-28, 2011: 33rd meeting of the HRDWG — Washington, DC
DOL hosted the 33rd meeting of the HRDWG in Washington, DC. Secretary Solis welcomed efforts by APEC to seek ways to spread the benefits of economic growth to workers.
5th APEC HRD Labor Ministerial Meeting — China — September 2010
On September 16 and 17, 2010 Deputy Undersecretary Sandra Polaski represented the United States at the 5th APEC HRD Labor Ministerial Meeting in Beijing, China. Ministers put forth an Action Plan (2011-2014) for developing human resources, vigorously promoting employment, and achieving inclusive growth.
Human Resource Impacts of the Global Economic Crisis — Indonesia — July 2010
Case studies from eleven APEC Member Economies were presented at a DOL-organized conference in Jakarta, Indonesia that detailed labor market impacts as a result of the recession and examined the successes and challenges of interventions that were staged in response to this crisis.
Developing Effective Public-Private Partnerships: Meeting the Needs of the 21st Century Global Workforce — Singapore — August 2008
This symposium, co-hosted by the U.S. and Australian governments, examined best practice examples of public-private partnerships for implementing labor market and welfare policies and programs in APEC economies.
Innovations in Human Resources and Economic Development: Ensuring Sustainable Growth in the 21st Century — Philippines — September 2007
Co-hosted by the U.S. and Philippines governments, this conference showcased innovative approaches to human resource and economic development. Participants discussed skills credentials, certification, and models for developing such standards.
Strategies for Workforce Development: Keys to Success in the 21st Century — Vietnam — September 2006
This event, co-hosted by the U.S. and Vietnam governments, focused on the design of effective public workforce development systems and ways to produce an educated and skilled workforce.
