Problem to be Addressed |
With an estimated 4 million people living with HIV/AIDS, India is home to 10 percent of the global HIV population, second only to South Africa. HIV is spreading from urban to rural areas and from high risk to low risk groups. Currently no state is free from the virus. HIV/AIDS has become one of India’s most complex epidemics, presenting a challenge that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of public health, raising fundamental issues of human rights and threatening development achievements. |

Project Objectives |
- Reduced HIV/AIDS risk behaviors of employees and families form targeted enterprises;
- Reduced level of workplace discrimination against persons living with HIV/AIDS

Summary of Activities |
- Collect baseline data during the first quarter of the project.
- Collect data on the impact of the pandemic from employers and share responses in workshop setting.
- Review existing policy and legislative documents related to HIV/AIDS and produce a draft policy statement.
- Develop panel of expert resource persons for two pilot training programs for employers’ and workers’ organizations.
- Collect and analyze information and “best practices” on HIV prevention and care and support workplace initiatives.
- Develop online database.
- Promote ILO Code of Practice in seminars and workshops; prepare Hindi version of the Code and translate to three other languages.
