Problem to be Addressed

Child labor research is a relatively new field and many information gaps need to be filled, particularly regarding the worst forms of child labor.

Project Objectives

  • Increase the knowledge base on child labor by filling gaps in the difficult to research areas of child labor;

  • Increase world-wide awareness of child labor and its causes and consequences;

  • Promotion of good policy practices and program development strategies for the successful implementation of ILO Conventions No. 182 and 138.

Summary of Activities

  • Conduct study on child labor and school attendance and performance;

  • Conduct economic study on child labor wages and productivity levels;

  • Conduct study on mechanisms of forced and bonded child labor (Niger, Ghana, Haiti, Pakistan);

  • Develop IPEC working paper series on topics of rising importance;

  • Perform good policy practice review and produce manual;

  • Concept paper on targeting the intolerable forms of child labor
