Lack of standardized global estimates, as data on child labor is often not comparable across countries.

Development Objective: By the end of the two-year duration of this project, the IPEC Knowledge Subprogram will have strengthened the national capacity of participating countries for the systematic collection, processing, analysis, reporting and dissemination of reliable quantitative and qualitative information on child labor.  This was to be accomplished through the following immediate objectives:

• Statistical methodological approaches made available, validated and in use to measure and assess child labor with special emphasis on the worst forms;

• Participating countries trained to generate, process, analyze, disseminate and maintain data on child labor on a regular basis, including the worst forms of child labor;

• Technical assistance to collect, process, analyze and disseminate data on child labor provided to 38 countries;

• Create a knowledge base with data, reports and research on child labor accessible and used worldwide for awareness, policy and program development, monitoring and evaluation.

• Improved and validated statistical methodological approaches to measure child labor, with special emphasis on its worst forms;

• Provided technical assistance and trained 38 participating countries to collect, process, analyze, disseminate, and maintain data on child labor on a regular basis; and

• Developed a knowledge base on child labor with data, reports, and research for awareness raising, policy and program development, and monitoring and evaluation of the situation of working children worldwide.
