Combating Child Labor in the Mining Sector in Colombia

Purpose: To support Colombia’s efforts to reduce child labor, including by promoting safe work in the mining sector, with a focus on artisanal, non-formal mining, as a strategy for mitigating the risk of injuries for adult workers that can negatively impact household livelihoods and contribute to child labor.

Combating Child Labor in the Tea Sector in Rwanda
Status: Open Solicitation for Cooperative Agreement Applications (SCA)
Purpose: To support efforts by the Government of Rwanda and tea industry entities to significantly reduce child labor in the production of tea, including by implementing a child labor monitoring system, enhancing labor law enforcement efforts on smallholder farms, and increasing children’s access to education. The project will also promote decent work for older children and economic opportunities for those Rwandan households most vulnerable to child labor in tea growing areas.
Amount: Up to $5 million

Preventing Child Labor in Home-Based Carpet Production in Afghanistan

Purpose: To reduce the worst forms of child labor in the home-based production of carpets in Afghanistan by designing and piloting a sustainable social compliance system in collaboration with at least one partner company. The project will focus on addressing child labor in at least one district of Afghanistan in which there is evidence of a high prevalence of child labor in home-based carpet weaving workplaces.

African Youth Empowerment and Development Initiative

Purpose: To address exploitative child labor among youth by helping them develop marketable skills to secure decent work. The project will target vulnerable youth age 14 through 18, to enhance livelihoods for youth and their households, support civic engagement by youth, and encourage youth to take on leadership roles within their communities.

Combating Child Labor in Morocco
Status: Notice of Intent (NOI)- subject to the availability of funds
Purpose: To support efforts in rural and peri-urban areas of Morocco to reduce child labor and assist youth of legal working age to secure decent work. The project will also improve the capacity of Morocco’s labor inspectorate to monitor and enforce labor laws in rural agricultural areas and strengthen the ability of civil society organizations to reduce child labor through service provision and advocacy.
