U.S. LABOR DEPARTMENT RECOVERS $17,000 BACK WAGES FOR AREA WORKERS
Chicago The U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division has recovered $17,039.17 in back wages for six current or former employees of S.O.S. Construction Industries, Inc., Youngstown, working on a federally funded construction project in Columbus.
S.O.S Construction agreed to pay the back wages in a legal action filed before an Administrative Law Judge and also agreed to comply with applicable wage determination rates, pay required fringe benefits, pay time and one-half the prevailing rate for overtime, and to maintain accurate record of hours worked by laborers and mechanics on future Davis-Bacon and Related Acts (DBRA) contracts.
The agreement to pay back wages followed an investigation by the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division which determined that the firm had failed to pay laborers and mechanics wages and benefits required under the DBRA and the Contract Work Hours and Safety Standards Act which governed wages on the project. S.O.S. Construction denied liability in the matter and Administrative Law Judge Richard E. Huddleston, Cincinnati, directed that the agreement "not be construed as an admission of liability" by the firm.
The investigation was conducted by the Wage and Hour Division District Office, 200 N. High St., Columbus, under the supervision of Richard J. Malloy, district director.
