Publications and Outreach OLMS has an active education and compliance assistance program to promote voluntary compliance with the LMRDA by informing union officers and others affected by the law of their responsibilities and by encouraging members to exercise their rights under the LMRDA. Compliance Assistance Seminars OLMS District Offices throughout the country offer compliance assistance seminars to explain the requirements of the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA). These seminars cover topics such as union reporting and recordkeeping, financial safeguards for union funds, elections of union officers, and training for union trustees on conducting audits in small unions. Some of these seminars are sponsored by labor unions, labor education programs, or other groups to provide training for their representatives while other seminars are solely OLMS sponsored and may be attended by any interested union officers and members. If your organization would like to sponsor a seminar with OLMS, contact the nearest OLMS District Office Upcoming Compliance Assistance Seminars OLMS Publications OLMS also publishes and distributes explanatory pamphlets which emphasize voluntary compliance with the LMRDA and outline the law's requirements. The topics include union reporting and recordkeeping, financial safeguards for union funds, elections of union officers, training for union trustees on conducting audits in small unions, public disclosure of union records, and union member rights and union officer responsibilities. Documents are available for download from the OLMS website (in html format with a pdf version of some documents available). If you would like to order a hard copy of a publication, contact the nearest OLMS District Office or email OLMS at: olms-public@dol.gov or call 202-693-0123. OLMS Compliance Assistance for Small Unions The Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS) Web site provides resources to help officers and members of small labor organizations understand and comply with requirements in the Labor-Management Reporting and Disclosure Act (LMRDA) concerning union reporting, elections of officers, financial safeguards, recordkeeping, and other aspects of union operations. Unions composed of Federal government employees are subject to similar requirements under the Civil Service Reform Act (CSRA). OLMS Compliance Assistance for Small Unions Last Updated: 12/21/04 |
