Important Changes to the Federal Minimum Wage

The Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007 increased the federal minimum wage in three steps:

  • $5.85 per hour as of July 24, 2007;
  • $6.55 per hour as of July 24, 2008; and
  • $7.25 per hour as of July 24, 2009.

The regular rate of pay on which overtime pay is calculated cannot be less than the federal minimum wage. This Advisor will make a sample overtime pay calculation based on information employee provide. The regular rate of pay calculated from employee's data will be compared to the federal minimum wage.
