Washington, D.C. Native Named Regional Director For Pension And Welfare Benefits Administration In Philadelphia

Mabel Lum Capolongo, a native of Washington, D.C., has been named regional director of the U.S. Department of Labor’s Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration Office (PWBA) in Philadelphia.

The mission of the PWBA is to protect the integrity of pensions, health plans, and other employee benefits for more than 200 million people

Capolongo will be responsible for administering Title I enforcement provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), overseeing investigations, providing litigation support and being the primary liason with representatives of federal and state agencies involved in pursuing ERISA violations.

Prior to being appointed regional administrator, Capolongo was PWBA’s Washington, D.C. district director. Capolongo started her career with the Department of Labor in 1979 and has served as a staff accountant, auditor and senior investigator.

Capolongo received a Special Achievement Award in 1991 and a Distinguished Career Service Award in 1995. Ms. Capolongo earned an accounting and an M.B.A. degree from American University in 1978 and 1985 respectively and is a state of Maryland Certified Public Accountant.

The jurisdiction of the regional office covers Delaware, the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and southern New Jersey.
