It was the perfect day for a picnic! While it's good to take a break from work and have some fun, it's also important not to lose sight of why we have a Labor Day in the first place. It's a day to salute the strength and dignity of American workers, celebrate our accomplishments and recommit ourselves to the work ahead.
Hundreds of families came out to enjoy good food, games (with American-made prizes, of course!) and great company. I always enjoy chatting with the future workers of America!
Members of the Sheet Metal Workers Local 24 demonstrated how to make a tool tray. I was impressed with the final product.
It was wonderful to see generations of families enjoying Labor Day together. Young and old alike came out to celebrate.
I shared how the administration - and particularly the Labor Department - is committed to safeguarding and creating good jobs that pay family-supporting wages. No one who works full time should have to live in poverty.
