On Aug. 28, 2013, the Wage and Hour Division Minneapolis District Office signed a two-year Agreement Establishing an Understanding with Consulate of Ecuador in Minneapolis. The agreement that covers a five-state area establishes a collaborative relationship between the WHD and the Consulate to provide Ecuadorian nationals in Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota, the educational and informational resources necessary to help them exercise their workplace rights. Minneapolis District Director Theresa Walls and Consul General Silvia Ontaneda took part in the actual signing which took place at Ecuadorian Consulate office in downtown Minneapolis.

The alliance establishes a collaborative relationship to provide Mexican nationals in Michigan and northern Ohio with guidance and training resources on workers' rights, understanding U.S. domestic law and OSHA standards.
