Unemployment Insurance (UI) Major Application (MA)

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY REPORT

INTRODUCTION TO THE PIA

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to describe the Privacy Impact Assessment (PIA) conducted for the Office of Workforce Security (OWS) Unemployment Insurance (UI) Major Application (MA). The Department of Labor (DOL) is responsible for ensuring proper protections of the information contained within its information systems, including personally identifiable information (PII).

One objective of the PIA is to assist the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) and OWS in identifying personal information and addressing information privacy when planning, developing, implementing, and operating individual agency information management systems and integrated DOL information systems

The system that hosts the UI MA resides on the ETA General Support System (GSS), which is owned and administered by ETA. The UI MA collects aggregate data from State Workforce Agencies and produces reports based on that data.

PIA APPROACH

The PIA was conducted in collaboration with the Program Office, Information System Security Officers, Project Manager, ETA Privacy Officer, and System Analyst. The System Security Plan, Risk Assessment and the OWS software program specifications documents were used to complete this assessment.

PIA RESULTS

Based on the results of the assessment, the OWS UI MA does not process, collect, store, or transmit personally identifiable information.
