May 29 Minimum Wage for Maximum Impact Panel Discussion, Washington, DC.
Marking Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, acting Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris on May 29 will host “Minimum Wage for Maximum Impact,” a panel discussion about AAPI workers earning at or near the current federal minimum wage, and how a boost in the federal minimum wage would benefit them and their families. Since the president’s State of the Union address in February, the acting secretary and other Labor Department officials have held more than two dozen round-table discussions with workers around the country on President Barack Obama’s proposal to raise the minimum wage and ensure that hard work leads to a decent living. This discussion will take place at the U.S. Department of Labor’s Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C. The panel will include: -Seth D. Harris, acting secretary of labor -Kiran Ahuja, White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders -Lisa Hasegawa, National Coalition for Asian Pacific American Community Development -Rachana Shah, legislative assistant to U.S. Rep.
