VIDEOTAPE


Introduce the videotape segment of this training program. It is entitled "America in Jeopardy: The Young Employee and Drugs in the Workplace." Tell participants that the video shows many of the ways that drug abuse affects the lives of ordinary people. And it presents some startling statistics on the effects of drug abuse on your health and safety in the workplace.

Videotape Discussion

After viewing the videotape, you will be asked to discuss the film and answer the following questions:

  1. What did you learn from the film?
    Ask about the people who were featured— the blind young man, the fire fighter, the nurse.

  2. Do you feel that you have an adequate understanding of the way drugs affect your body?
    Ask how they think the people in the film were affected by the drugs they used.

  3. How can alcohol and drug use affect my work performance?
    Changes in mood, behavior, manual dexterity

  4. How can drug use Meet one's safety on the job?
    Heavy machinery, cognitive tasks, hazardous chemicals, dangerous activities

  5. Do you think that understanding the way alcohol and other drugs of abuse act on the body will influence one's decisions about drug and alcohol use?
    Ask whether anyone in the group has an opinion on this question.

  6. What do you know about the legal effects of use and/or Possession of illegal drugs?
    Fines and penalties vary from state to state and may range from $25.00 for possession of marijuana to several hundred dollars for other drug related infractions. Your State's Attorney General's office can provide you with current information for your state.
