The Search function is designed to allow the user to conduct either a very general search or a more customized search. To conduct a general search, simply enter information in the "Search by Word/Phrase" field and select the Search button. To narrow your search, enter information in one or more of the other fields and select the search button. Please note that at this time, the search function only searches for word(s) and/or phrases found in an item's identifying information (i.e., author, publisher, abstract, etc.). Specifically, the search function does not search attached pdf files that may appear in an item's full text.

To select more than one item in a field, highlight the item and press the left mouse button while pressing the control key.

Once you have conducted a search and wish to return to the "Search SAID" screen from the "Search Results" screen, select the "Clear" button to rid the screen of the information you previously entered. Using the "Back" button to return to the "Search SAID" screen will not clear the screen of previously entered information.

Search by Word/Phrase:

Enter the word or words you wish to identify in SAID documents. A search for words/phrases separated by "AND" will identify documents in which BOTH words/phrases appear. A search for words separated by "OR" will identify documents in which either word/phrase appears.

Search by Title:

To identify a document by its title, simply type in the identifying information and select the Search button.

Search by Author:

To identify a document by its author, simply type in the identifying information. When searching by a person's name, type in his or her last name. If the author's first name is known, type in his or her first name after the last name (i.e., Smith, John). When searching more than one person's name where the authors' first names are known, type in the names as follows: Smith, John; Miller, Kyle and Jones, Susan.

Search by Publisher:

To identify a document by its publisher, simply type in the identifying information. When searching by a person's name, type in his or her last name. If the publisher's first name is known, type in his or her first name after the last name (i.e. Smith, John). When searching more than one person's name where the publishers' first names are known, type in the names as follows: Smith, John; Miller, Kyle and Jones, Susan.

Search by Topic/Sub-Topic:

SAID includes ten topics, most of which include several sub-topics. To narrow your search by topic, select one or more topics or sub-topics as described above.

Search by State or Territory:

To identify state- or territory-specific documents, select one or more states or territories.

Search by Date:

To limit your search to documents by publication date, select the year in which the item was published.

Search by Language:

Selecting "Spanish" will identify documents that may be available from the publisher in Spanish.

Search by Format:

To identify documents by format, select one or more format options.
