Labor force participation rates by age, 2005
for youth and older workers

- Youth in Canada and the United States participated in the labor market to a much greater extent than youth in
Korea, Japan, Mexico, and most of Europe.
- Older persons in non-Scandinavian European countries were less likely to remain in the labor force than their
counterparts in North American and Asian-Pacific countries.

NOTE: Youth are defined as persons under age 25 and over age 14 or 15.
Older workers are defined as persons ages 55 to 64.
