Mifflinburg Area Future Farmers of America and Union County 4-H teams sweep competition at Farm Safety Quiz Bowl State Finals co-sponsored by US Labor Department

Both teams take 1st place at annual event

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Mifflinburg Area Future Farmers of America (FFA) and the Union County 4-H teams finished first at the Farm Safety Quiz Bowl State Finals held at the Pennsylvania Farm Show on January 13 in Harrisburg. 

The annual competition, which is co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division, tests the knowledge of participants on a range of topics related to farm safety and health.

Mifflingburg Area FFA team members Sarah Eichenlaub, Lacey Smith, Emily J. Smith and Jacob C. Mabus defeated three FFA teams from Big Spring, Chambersburg, and Conococheague, Pa.

Union County 4-H team members Brooke Zimmerman, Chelynn Bingaman, Erin Rishel and Ray Pletcher defeated three 4-H teams from Snyder County, Cumberland County and Huntingdon County, Pa.

Charles Kessler is the coach for both the FFA and 4-H teams.

Each team won a prize of $650.

The Wage and Hour Division is responsible for enforcing some of our nation’s most comprehensive federal labor laws on topics including the minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping and youth employment.
