Secretary of labor to host tribal leaders at U.S. Department of Labor Nov. 4

Unprecedented event reflects administration commitment to Indian Country

WASHINGTON — As a prelude to the White House Tribal Nations Conference the following day, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, Secretary Hilda L. Solis will host tribal leaders at the U.S. Department of Labor. Invitations are being extended to representatives of the 564 federally recognized tribes across the United States.

"This first-of-its-kind meeting will mark a new beginning in the ongoing collaboration between the Department of Labor and tribal nations," said Secretary Solis. "I look forward to integrating this priority into each of the department's agencies, which will focus on building meaningful relationships that engage the tribes in our ongoing work."

At this Labor Department event, in consultation with tribal leaders, Secretary Solis will articulate her vision for economic and workforce development in Indian Country. Attendees also will interact with other high-ranking department officials.

For more information, tribal representatives and members of the public should contact Nicole Willis, Secretary Solis' special assistant for Indian affairs, at 202-693-6453 or willis.nicole@dol.gov.
