On Tuesday, Secretary Solis joined Sen. Jack Reed, Sen. Patty Murray, Rep. Sen. Arlen Specter, Sen. Orrin Hatch, Lucille Roybal-Allard, Rep. Steny Hoyer, Rep. Elijah Cummings, Rep. David Obey, National Job Corps Association (NJCA) members, and key administration officials in a Congressional “Breakfast for Champions” in honor of their long-time support of Job Corps.
This was the commencing event for Job Corps Day: 45 Years of Building Lives and Launching Careers, an event on Capitol Hill recognizing the comprehensive residential, academic, and vocational services Job Corps has provided to nearly 3 million of our nation’s at-risk youth. This year’s celebration featured a few firsts as participants witnessed a demonstration from Job Corps' First Robotics team and the “Final Four” round of the first-ever annual Job Corps Student Oratory Competition. DOL was able to take part in commemorative activities by offering a one-day internship to six Job Corps students.
