International Scene: Child Labor & Forced Labor Reports Released Today
The Department's International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB) released three reports today on child labor and/or forced labor in foreign countries, including the initial List of Goods Produced by Child or Forced Labor (required by the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2005). The report lists more than 120 goods from 58 countries that ILAB believes are produced by forced labor, child labor or both. ILAB also released a proposed update to its List of Products Produced by Forced or Indentured Child Labor, which will be available for public comment beginning tomorrow. The eighth annual Findings on the Worst Forms of Child Labor, a report mandated by the Trade and Development Act of 2000, was also released today.

News You Can Use: Back to School
President Obama's national back-to-school message had special significance for nearly 200 students at the Exeter Job Corps Academy in Providence, RI. They watched it alongside Secretary Solis, U.S. Senator Jack Reed, and Representatives James Langevin and Patrick Kennedy. This Job Corps center provides training in manufacturing, construction, culinary arts, health occupations, business and IT. The residential academy also gives students ages 16-24 a chance to earn a high school GED diploma and higher certification.
Back-to-school is also a great time to remind employers, parents and teen workers about the types of jobs teens can hold, and the number of hours they can work especially during the school term.
