Talking Points Prepared for
U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao
President's Quality Awards Ceremony
Washington, D.C.
December 13, 2005
I want to thank OPM Director Linda Springer and her OPM team for sponsoring this special ceremony.
I want to recognize OMB Director Josh Bolten and OMB Deputy Director for Management Clay Johnson for their tirelessleadership, encouragement and support on behalf of the President's Management Agenda.
The President's Management Agenda is one of our highestpriorities at the Department of Labor.
Since the President launched these important reforms 5 years ago, the Department's entire senior management team has been committed to implementing themin particular, Steven Law, Deputy Secretary of Labor, and Patrick Pizzella, Assistant Secretary of Labor for Administration and Management.
They, the rest of the agency heads, and other colleagues at DOL, are key to achieving positive, measurable results for our clients, America's workforce.
I'm proud that the Department's management team is being recognized for the second year in a row.
Last year, the Department received two President's Quality Awards for Strategic Management of Human Capital and Budget and Performance Integration.
And this year's award recognizes the Department's overall effectiveness in implementing all fivekey areas of the President's Management Agenda.
So on behalf of the senior leadership team and the more than 17,000 employees at the Department of Labor, thank you again for this very special recognition, and please know that this award will spur us to strive to do even better next year for the American workforce.
