Visits the Dominican Republic
Deputy Under Secretary for International Affairs Charlotte M. Ponticelli was the guest of honor and keynote speaker at the project launch ceremony of the new USDOL-funded project "Combating Exploitive Child Labor through Education in the Dominican Republic: Phase II" on January 15th. The event was held in Santo Domingo. The project aims to eliminate the worst forms of child labor, especially in informal urban work and in tourist and beach areas of the Dominican Republic.
Deputy Under Secretary Ponticelli met with U.S. Ambassador to the Dominican Republic P. Robert Fannin and that country's Secretary of Labor José Fadul.

Labor Department Reports for the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement Per the Trade Act of 2002 [sections 2102(c)(5), 2102(c)(8) and 2102(c)(9)] and subsequent delegations of responsibilities that it creates, ILAB prepares for Congress three reports for every country with which the United States intends to establish a free trade agreement: a U.S. employment impact report, a report on the labor rights situation in our proposed partner country, and a report on laws governing exploitative child labor in the partner.
