Centennial Anniversary of the United States Department of Labor Day

WHEREAS, March 4,2013, marks 100 years of the United States Department of Labor fostering, promoting, and developing the welfare of wage earners, job seekers, and retirees in this country; and

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Labor has continually sought to make the American workplace safer, healthier and more fair; and

WHEREAS, working families in the City of San Diego, across the country, and across the world have benefitted from the efforts of the United States Department of Labor to assure work-related benefits and rights; and

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Labor has evolved to meet the changing needs of a changing workforce by partnering with employers, community organizations and institutions of higher learning; and

WHEREAS,The United States Department of Labor will address tomorrow's conditions, and meet the needs of future workers with the same insight, foresight and passion it has shown for the past century; NOW, THEREFORE,

BE IT RESOLVED, THAT I, BOB FILNER, the 35th Mayor of the City of San Diego, do hereby proclaim, March 4,2013, to be "Centennial Anniversary of the United States Department of Labor Day" in the City of San Diego in recognition of their commitment to improving the lives of workers throughout the United States.
