PROCLAMATION
by Steven L. Beshear
Governor
of the
Commonwealth of Kentucky

To All Whom These Presents Shall Come:

WHEREAS, For one hundred years, the United States Department of Labor (U.S. DOL) has fostered and promoted the welfare of job seekers, wage earners and retirees of this country and continually sought to make the American workplace safer, healthier and fairer for all; and

WHEREAS, Working families in the Commonwealth and across the nation and world have benefitted from the U.S. DOL's efforts to assure work-related benefits and rights, including the right to be paid fairly for every hour labored; and

WHEREAS, The U.S. DOL has evolved to meet the needs of a changing workforce by partnering with employers, community organizations and institutions of higher learning to improve job training, provide lifelong learning opportunities and advance profitable employment; and

WHEREAS, The department's impact extends beyond the workplace, touching lives at all stages by allowing parents to take leave and tend to loved ones, training veterans and young people for the careers of a lifetime and guaranteeing retirees' pensions; and

WHEREAS, The invaluable services provided by the U.S. DOL will remain tremendously important to the well-being of all Americans by addressing working conditions and meeting the needs of future workers with the same insight, foresight and passion it has shown for the past century;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, STEVEN L. BESHEAR, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, do hereby proclaim March 4, 2013, as

THE CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF LABOR

in Kentucky.

DONE AT THE CAPITOL, in the City of Frankfort the 26th day of February, in the year of Our Lord Two Thousand Thirteen and in the 221st year of the Commonwealth.
