PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, For the past 100 years, the United States Department of Labor has fostered, promoted and
developed the welfare of our nation's wage earners, job seekers and retirees. The Department has worked diligently to make the American workplace safer, healthier and more equitable for all workers. The City of Akron, Ohio's working families and those across the world have benefited from the U.S. Department of Labor's efforts to assure work-related benefits and rights, including the right to be paid fairly; and

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Labor has evolved to meet the changing needs of our workforce by partnering with employers, community organizations and higher learning institutions to improve job training, provide lifelong learning opportunities and advance efforts for profitable employment; and

WHEREAS, The United States Department of Labor has touched people's lives at all stages, even outside the workforce, by allowing parents to take leave and tend loved ones, by training veterans and young people for the careers of a lifetime and by guaranteeing the pensions of retired workers; and

WHEREAS, The services provided by the United States Department of Labor are inestimable, and the Department's work will remain of vital importance to the well-being of all Americans. The Department will continue to address future workplace conditions, and will meet the needs of future workers with the same insight, foresight and passion it has shown for the past century. The lives of Akron residents will continue to benefit from the many contributions of the United States Department of Labor.

Now, Therefore I, Donald L. Plusquellic, Mayor of the City of Akron, Ohio, do hereby proclaim Monday, March 4, 2013, as: "THE UNITED STATES DEPARMENT OF LABOR CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY DAY"
in the City of Akron, Ohio, and ask all residents to praise and thank them for continually working for the benefit of all workers, job seekers and retirees in our community. In 'Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Akron to be affixed hereto this 14th day of February, 2013.
